Charles Barkley has jokes and there is truth to them

TNT Broadcaster Charles Barkley is well known for his opinions on the set with Shaq, Kenny, and Ernie Johnson. They bring laughter, surprise, and sometimes confusion. Recently, he lamented the fact that the Los Angeles Clippers Guard Paul George calls himself “Playoff P.” Nicknames in sports are usually given for athletic achievement on a high level. It’s never a good idea to give yourself a nickname. Ever. Take it from someone who knows.

Anyway, the Los Angeles Clippers have a 2-1 advantage on the Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference playoffs. After scoring 27 points, shooting 45 percent from the field and 36 percent from the perimeter in game one, George has struggled shooting the ball the last two games. He had 14 points on 4-of-17 shooting from the field and 2-of-10 shooting from the perimeter and a plus-minus of -13. His latest performance in Game 3 where he scored 11 points prompted Barkley to crack jokes.

Charles Barkley has a valid point. Will Paul George step up his level of play?

While his joke on the NBA on TNT set made the guys laugh, you have to wonder if the Clippers are going to survive given George’s level of play. Kawhi Leonard may have been the main guy on the Toronto Raptors championship team, but he came to Los Angeles wanting to play with George for a reason. George is a solid scorer when he gets into a rhythm. He has to let his play do the talking.

George has probably seen the clip of Barkley calling him out and could use it as fuel to put on a show in Games 4 and 5. Luka Doncic injured his ankle in Game 3 and that will something to pay attention to moving forward.

The Clippers go back on the road to Dallas with the chance to take a 3-1 lead Sunday afternoon on ABC. Game time is 3:30 pm ET.
