Does getting back to the postseason after a one-year absence qualify as “finally” returning? When you’re America’s Team and have Jerry Jones performing weekly colonoscopies on the entire operation by way of talk radio, no doubt about it.

Fortunately for Dallas, Jones finally got serious about the head coaching situation after allowing Jason Garrett to guide the franchise to one playoff win over a decade.

It’s hard to predict what kind of shelf life Mike McCarthy can have under one of the NFL’s most meddling owners. As far as 2020 is concerned though, expect the offensive guru to have an immediate impact on the trajectory of quarterback Dak Prescott.

Through four seasons, Prescott has been good with glimpses of great. McCarthy can help push the 27-year-old signal-caller into the conversation with the elite, same as he did for Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay early in the future Hall of Famer’s career.

It doesn’t hurt the Cowboys bolstered an already talented roster, either. Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb was a steal in Round 1 of the draft, while the defense adds linemen Everson Griffen, Dontari Poe and Aldon Smith, and safety HaHa Clinton-Dix.

The biggest move by far was dumping Garrett though. Textbook addition by subtraction.
