The New York Mets to resume play on Tuesday after sitting out the weekend.

The New York Mets are expected to play again on Tuesday after not playing since Wednesday.

According to Joel Sherman of The New York Post, the “Mets have had no further COVID-19 positive test results since the original player and coach. They will resume play on Tuesday.” The Mets last played on Aug. 19, defeating the Miami Marlins, 5-3. After missing this past weekend’s series vs. the New York Yankees, the Mets look to host the Marlins on Tuesday night.

Could the New York Mets’ winning streak continue vs. the Miami Marlins?

Prior to the positive COVID-19 test on Thursday morning, New York was riding a three-game winning streak over The Fish. After getting swept two weekends ago by the Philadelphia Phillies, New York rattled off three in a row over a Miami team that may have finally found its water after a hot, albeit coronavirus-complicated, start to the 2020 MLB season.

The Mets are in third place in the National League East and only a game back of the Marlins for second place and in playoff position. Though three games back of the division-leading Atlanta Braves, there is a chance the Mets could be rocking a baseball-best, seven-game winning streak if they continue to dominate the Marlins.

Because they had the final game of their four-game series postponed, the idea is it will be made up as part of a doubleheader in this upcoming three-game series. With potentially a seven-game winning streak heading into their next series vs. the Yankees next weekend, the Mets could have the momentum needed to push towards first place in the division if the Braves slip up.

While the Mets will get to face the Marlins again, the Braves will have to take on the Yankees during the same stretch. Atlanta did not have any success this season vs. the Bronx Bombers. The Braves can’t afford to get swept by New York if they want to hold on to the division lead heading into the weekend. This looks to be an incredibly critical weekend for the National League East.

Assuming no last-minute hang-ups, the Mets will be playing the Marlins on Tuesday this week.
