5 reasons Saints can win the Super Bowl this year
1. Drew Brees is still playing at a high level
One of the greatest Saints’ players ever, Brees is still one of the gold standards of quarterback play in the NFL. The league’s career leader in passing yardage and touchdown passes, Brees also has a Super Bowl ring on his resume.
Adding a second would put Brees into a whole new class of immortality, but that next championship has eluded him. There are also questions about how much arm strength Brees has lost since New Orleans has called fewer deep passing plays over the last few years.
Payton also notably went to Hill for a deep Hail Mary at the end of last year’s playoff loss instead of Brees, which is not great. Despite a diminishing arm, Brees is still extremely accurate and incredibly smart, which should allow him to efficiently run the New Orleans offense.
This may well be Brees’ last year and he will be highly motivated to go out on top with a second Super Bowl trophy. Having a legend like Brees under center for one last ride is the biggest reason why the Saints will win the Super Bowl this season.
