Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 127. NL West. . San Diego Padres. 2. player

The Rangers would hate nothing more than trading their best player to the team who wrecked their season and exposed them as subscribers to the ridiculous unwritten rules of the game, but trading Lynn to San Diego might work out best for all parties involved. In a major reversal of San Diego’s usual M.O., it’s been the starting rotation that has disappointed, while the likes of Tatis and Manny Machado have been mashing in the lineup.

The Padres have the league’s biggest collection of star prospects, but their front office has to know that not all of them will be stars in this league or have a role with the team in the near future. Why not send a few of them down to Arlington in exchange for Lynn? In both the short and long term, Lynn could help San Diego, as he’ll bolster their rotation for the playoff push while giving them a legit ace while Mackenzie Gore and company make their way through the minors.
