Russell Wilson isn’t the only quarterback worth paying attention to at the Seahawks’ training camp.

Since 2012, Russell Wilson has been the quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks. He’s yet to miss a game since the Seahawks took him in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft and has won a Super Bowl while quarterbacking the offense.

While Wilson is still undoubtedly the starting quarterback of the Seahawks, the backup spot is potentially up for grabs and some even think rookie Anthony Gordon could be making a strong case to win the backup job.

Anthony Gordon could win the backup job with a strong showing at camp.

Gordon went undrafted this year after an impressive 2019 campaign at Washington State where he threw for 5,579 yards, 48 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions. He’s shown he can air out the football with ease and the Seahawks obviously saw something in him that led them to sign him as an undrafted free agent.

The other backup quarterback option is Geno Smith, a former second round pick back in 2013 who has bounced around the league since fizzling with the Jets. He’s also spent time with the Giants and Chargers, and this will be his second year with the Seahawks.

Seattle has been fortunate that they haven’t needed a reliable backup since Wilson hasn’t missed a start since the team drafted him eight years ago and continues to be in impeccable shape. Even if Gordon does win the backup spot behind Wilson, it’s doubtful he sees the field at all other than in blowouts.

Still, it’d be a cool story for a guy who played college football in the state of Washington to be the backup for the state’s pro team.

Gordon going undrafted was a bit surprising since he did put up good numbers, but he’s already turning heads with his performance in camp and could end up surpassing Smith on the depth chart.
