4. Adrian Peterson, RB

He still running the rock only these days, only he’s doing it for the Washington Football Team. But back in 2007, University of Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson was the seventh overall selection in the draft that year by the Minnesota Vikings.

It’s safe to say he had quite made quite the impression during his debut campaign when he rushed for 1,341 yards and 12 touchdowns in 14 contests. That year against the then-San Diego Chargers at the Metrodome, he rolled up an NFL record 295 yards on the ground.

Peterson spent 10 seasons with the Vikings and is the franchise’s all-time leading rusher with 11,747 yards. He amassed 13,692 yards from scrimmage and 102 total touchdowns with the club. He led the league in rushing three times, including 2012 when he rolled up 2,097 yards on the ground on the way to earning NFL MVP honors.

Since leaving Minnesota, he’s played for the Saints, Cardinals and Washington. He ranks fifth in NFL history with 14,216 yards rushing and is eyeing the fourth spot.

“That’s definitely one of the goals, passing Barry Sanders (15,347) would definitely be one of the highlights of my career. What he accomplished, and how I’ve looked up to him, I’ve always wanted to say I did something better than Barry Sanders,” Peterson said on NFL Network earlier this year via Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk.
