Heartbreaking news arrived for Ryan Fitzpatrick, as his mother passed away on Saturday.

When Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick left practice on Saturday morning, fans were concerned with what might have been going on with the veteran quarterback. Unfortunately, some tragic news has arrived for him.

Shortly after he left the practice field, it was revealed by the Dolphins staff that Fitzpatrick had just learned the news that his mother had passed away. Understandably, the team allowed him to exit the gridiron so he could go be with his family.

Unfortunately for the quarterback, he knew this moment was coming, as his mom had fallen incredibly ill and he recently left camp so that he could enjoy some time with her. Still, though, losing a loved one is never easy and it’s multiplied by 1,000 when it’s your mom.

It’s unclear when Fitzpatrick will be return to camp for Miami, but head coach Brian Flores and his coaches are more than understanding of the situation.

For Fitzpatrick, he’s expected to once again be the starting quarterback for the Dolphins this campaign despite Miami using a first-round pick on former Alabama great Tua Tagovailoa. The plan is for the rookie to study behind Fitzpatrick to start out his career before eventually taking over as the team’s signal-caller.

Fitzpatrick is entering his 16th season in the NFL. In 2019, he threw for 3,529 yards and 20 touchdowns in his first campaign with Miami. The Dolphins struggled last season, going 5-11 on the year. Despite underperforming, there’s plenty of excitement surrounding the team entering the fall.

For Fitzpatrick, he’ll now get ready to play the season with a bit of a heavy heart after his mom passed away right before things were about to get started. Don’t be surprised if he dedicates multiple touchdowns this campaign in her honor.
