Clemson football season preview 2020: Record predictions, depth chart analysis, breakout players
Clemson football breakout players to watch
As mentioned before, the biggest question mark on the Clemson Tigers’ offense is at the wide receiver spot with Tee Higgins in the NFL and Justyn Ross out for the year due to injury. Which brings us to Amari Rodgers. Entering his senior year, Rodgers has been a solid contributor to the Clemson offense the past two seasons, catching 85 passes for 1,001 yards and eight touchdowns, but will be asked to take that next step to provide Lawrence with a familiar face as a go-to option while other’s make their way into the offense.
Another player that could breakout in 2020 is on the defensive side of the ball. With Isaiah Simmons in the NFL, redshirt sophomore, Mike Jones Jr., will have some big shoes to fill.
Jones only recorded 18 tackles last season, but picked up one pass deflection and forced a fumble in his back up role. With experience and depth along that front seven, Jones will have the support needed to ease into the role, and once he finds his footing, will become one of the Tigers’ defensive leaders.
The Clemson Tigers are one of the top college football programs in the country, and despite losing some big names on both sides of the ball, should not miss a beat in 2020. Once again, it’s championship or bust for the Tigers. Can Clemson claim back their crown, and win their third national title in five years? Or will the rest of the conference take advantage of 2020 and send the Tigers home empty-handed?
