Nolan Arenado

The Colorado Rockies star has been looking to play for a winner for a while, but they haven’t been willing to move Nolan Arenado and they haven’t made the right moves to make them a winner. Now, they are stuck in limbo with a player that’s making a ton (a guaranteed $35 million for the next four seasons unless he opts out after next season).

Arenado would get the Rockies a haul. Even with his opt-out clause and massive contract, Arenado is one of the best players in the game today. This year, he has the worst OPS of his career, and he’s still hitting .815. It’s more likely once he gets into a situation he likes, he’ll go right back to his .900+ OPS mark. One might say leaving Colorado is going to hurt him, and it might slightly, but he’s the type of player that transcends the Rocky Mountains.

Arenado’s time with Colorado feels like it’s hanging by a thread. The rumors surrounding him at the trade deadline weren’t as loud as they were in the offseason, but expect them to get louder once the season is said and done.

The Rockies do have a shot to make the playoffs, as they currently sit sixth in the National League. The playoffs might even be likely for the Rockies, despite their struggles this season. If they go on a weird run during the postseason, this could change a lot about their standing with Arenado. However, if they don’t, this is a deal that’s probably going to happen.
