Breakdown

As mentioned before, the Texas A&M Aggies have a lot of talent returning from their 2019 season. Their leading passer, Kellen Mond, leading rusher, Isaiah Spiller, and leading receiver, Jhamon Ausbon, all return on offense. Their offense also returns four starts on the offensive line and one of their breakout stars from last season, tight end, Jalen Wydermyer. The biggest thing to keep an eye on is the usage of the receiver turned running back, Ainias Smith. Smith will be utilized quite a bit in both the run and pass game.

On defense, the Aggies might have one of the best secondaries in the nation and could have one of the best defenses in the country as well. Defensive tackle, Jayden Peevy, will finally get his chance to showcase his skills as the starter and safety, Leon O’Neal Jr. should have a breakout year that could have him declaring for the 2021 NFL Draft at the end of the season.

The Aggies have everything they need to compete for a chance at the College Football Playoff: coaching, experience, and depth. So if the Aggies do not meet expectations for 2020, they will only have themselves to blame.

Impact freshman

With a lot of talent returning on this Texas A&M football team, it will be hard to find a freshman take the field and make an instant impact. However, there is one player that will get that chance and that is wide receiver, Demond Demas.

He is a -foot-3 receiver out of Tomball, TX, who was forced to sit out his senior year of high school after being ruled ineligible due to an issue with his transfer from his previous high school. Kellen Mond has plenty of targets to share the wealth with but look for him to look Demas’ way early in the season.

On the other side of the ball, Jaylon Jones, who was ranked as the number one safety in the 2020 recruiting class, looks to make his presence known immediately as he makes the switch from safety to cornerback.

Jones has already started getting NFL comparisons and is ready to establish himself as one of the best corners in the SEC. Jones is slotted at the two-spot right now but with his skill and versatility, he will get plenty of playing time to eventually earn a starting spot.
