While some fans were hoping it’d happen, the Chicago Bears will not be signing running back Leonard Fournette

With Leonard Fournette being released by the Jacksonville Jaguars recently, fans in Chicago had been hoping the Bears would swoop in and add him to the running backs room to help improve the offense.

However, it doesn’t look like that’s going to be the case. On Wednesday, head coach Matt Nagy responded to reports the Bears were interested in signing the free agent but said that he’s comfortable with the running backs he’s got on his roster. Just like that, you can cross Chicago off the list of potential destinations for the bruising Fournette.

Leonard Fournette is looking for a new home, but it won’t be in Chicago

The Bears currently have six running backs on their roster, highlighted by Tarik Cohen and David Montgomery. While Nagy was quick to back up his speedsters, not giving Fournette a look feels like a bit of a head-scratcher.

Chicago could most certainly use a power running back who would be able to fight for extra yards. That was Fournette’s bread and butter during his time with Jacksonville. In his three years with the Jaguars, the 230-pounder rushed for 2,631 yards and 17 touchdowns. Last season, he finished with a career-high 1,152 yards.

However, Fournette also had his fair share of off-the-field issues with the Jaguars since his rookie season, which included the team deactivating him for a game in 2017. With Chicago taking itself out of the race to try and sign Fournette, where he could end up?

The Chiefs have emerged as a potential destination, which could make sense with Damien Williams opting out. Clyde Edwards-Helaire is set to be the featured back, but adding Fournette into the mix could somehow make Kansas City’s offense even more explosive. Stay tuned to see where Fournette heads to next.
