College football DFS running back picks September 3:

Top Tier:

No running back on this slate averaged double digit fantasy points per game last season. Carlos Davis has the most upside. As a freshman he still tallied 261 yards on 60 carries backing up Tra Minter. Minter was arguably the best back in the Sun Belt last year. Don’t be shocked if Davis takes that title this year.

Spencer Brown is listed as the starter for UAB, but Lucious Stanley will likely steal some carries. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if this wound up being a timeshare as well. We know a little more about the Central Arkansas time share, but we also know that UAB has a solid defense. It might be better to play UAB roulette.

Middle Tier:

Don Ragsdale did beat out Kevin Perkins and Frank Gore Jr. for the Eagles running back job. That’s saying something. Perkins had 547 rushing yards last season. I would expect Perkins to see some carries here, but Ragsdale would appear to be the way to go. Gore is fourth on the RB chart for week 1.

Bargain Shoppers:

We already have a little to go on for Central Arkansas. They played against Austin Peay last week, but the backfield situation is still muddled. Kierre Crossley rushed 12 times for 113 yards and Cam Myers rushed 13 times for 77 yards.

Crossley had the only touchdown and would appear to have more upside. It is worth keeping in mind that this appears to be a true timeshare, thus limiting the fantasy upside of both. It is worth noting that both were active in the passing game. That helps their upside if you decide to use one or both.
