We all want to have Patrick Mahomes or Lamar Jackson as our starting QB, but often times, waiting to take a QB is the best strategy to do in your draft.

I am a big fan of waiting to draft a QB. The quarterback position is as deep as they come. I am avoiding Jackson or Mahomes in the second round and taking one a couple rounds later. The QB I am targeting is:

Deshaun Watson (ADP: 42.4, Rounds 4-5): Even here can be a little high to take a QB but Watson will be worth it this year. The Texans have always had a good offense, and now more than ever, it relies solely on Deshaun. He will be forced to create big plays and keep his team in the game. His stats might not result in a ton of wins, but this offense will be better than people think. He is my darkhorse to win MVP.

If I pass on Deshaun, I am waiting for ol’ reliable (choose one):

Tom Brady (ADP: 74, Round 7-8): There’s value in Brady. He will lead a high flying Bucs offense which will put up points with all the weapons surrounding him. I also feel like Brady has something to prove this year. One thing I do know, you don’t get rich betting against Tom Brady. I am back on the hype train.

Drew Brees (ADP: 85, Round 8-9): Same story, different person. Drew Brees consistently puts up great numbers (unless he’s injured which isn’t often). He has a great offense surrounding him. Brees is the last QB I am touching for awhile, so if you skip him, here are a couple other options to consider:

Quick Hitters:

Daniel Jones (ADP: 145, Rounds 14-15): He was serviceable last year with his whole team injured. With everyone healthy, he is a sleeper. He also doesn’t get enough credit for the rushing yardage he gets.

Ben Roethlisberger (ADP: 146, Rounds 14-15): If he’s healthy, he could easily finish as a QB10 or better, despite being drafted as the 16th best. The Steelers will throw it early and often. Worth the risk in this round.

Moving on to some running backs!
