If Peterson wants a Super Bowl ring above anything, the Chiefs are the most obvious landing spot. The defending champions are poised to make a run at a repeat, but their running back depth was thinned by Damien Williams’ decision to opt-out. Rookie Clyde Edwards-Helaire is the clear-cut starter, with Darrel Williams, Darwin Thompson, and possibly DeAndre Washington (if he’s not cut) behind him.

Peterson would be a valuable veteran presence in the running back room for Kansas City if nothing else. The question, as always, is if he’d willingly take a backseat to anyone (let alone a rookie). When he was with the New Orleans Saints in 2017 he openly lamented a lack of playing almost immediately, as a rookie named Alvin Kamara showed himself worthy of more snaps right off the bat in a share of work that included Mark Ingram. The Saints eventually traded Peterson to the Arizona Cardinals, and cleared the runway for Kamara to emerge.

The Chiefs are probably considering the idea of signing Peterson as we speak, with all the selling points in their corner. They can name their price, and let Peterson take it or leave it. All things considered, he better take an offer from the Chiefs if it comes.
