Kai Havertz is coming to the Premier League with Chelsea.

Frank Lampard and Chelsea are going for broke this summer window to catch Liverpool and Manchester City in the Premier League. After reinforcing their attack by signing Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech while adding veteran center back Thiago Silva and Leicester left back Ben Chilwell to fortify their defense, Chelsea made arguably the most seismic move of the transfer window by adding one of the best young players in the world at any position.

Bayer Leverkusen and German national team attacking midfielder Kai Havertz will join the Blues for a £71m fee after an extended negotiation. That fee is a new club record, as it is significantly more than what former flop Alvaro Morata cost in 2017.

Fresh off Donny van de Beek signing for Manchester United, Chelsea decided to one-up their rivals.

Kai Havertz has the potential to become one of the best midfielders in the world

Havertz is just 21 years old and plays in the midfield, but he already had 150 appearances for Leverkusen and 46 goals, 38 of which have come in the last two seasons, for one of the best sides in the Bundesliga table under his belt. Havertz has already made seven appearances for his country, scoring once.

Havertz, who is expected to push Mason Mount out of the starting XI as he leads the attack alongside Werner, Ziyech, and Christian Pulisic, put out a message on Twitter thanking the Leverkusen fans for their support. Havertz outgrew his old club, and now he’s eyeing silverware with one of England’s best.

Havertz might not only be the future of Chelsea’s midfield, but his speed, vision, and thunderous right leg mean he could be the future of the legendary German national team. With another legendary attacking midfielder in Lampard overseeing all of the new signings, the Blues have as good a chance as anyone to unseat Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool at the top of the table.
