Mitchell Trubisky has won the starting quarterback job for the Chicago Bears, holding off a challenge from Nick Foles.

With his career in Chicago hanging in the balance, Mitchell Trubisky has held on to the starting quarterback job with the Bears.

Adam Schefter was the first to report Trubisky was named the starter with Schefter saying it was because of his progression, leadership and overall performance through training camp.

Trubisky battled veteran Nick Foles in camp after he was brought in for a fourth-round pick in a spring trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Chicago Bears name Mitchell Trubisky the starting quarterback over NIck Foles, but how long will the job be his?

Trubisky regressed and battled through an injury to his non-throwing shoulder early that also affected his play. After the team elected to not pick up his fifth-year option, this was a prove-it year for Trubisky and bringing in the veteran Foles apparently lit a fuse under the former No. 2 pick.

If Trubisky can revert to the type of play he showed two seasons ago, it should be enough to hold off Foles and retain the starting job for the long-term. And if the defense reverts to form it showed two years ago, the Bears should be a playoff contender.

But if Trubisky struggles, Bears head coach Matt Nagy will have a quick hook and won’t hesitate to insert Foles in the starting lineup who has made a career out of coming off the bench and impressing when given an opportunity.
