5 recently-cut NFL veterans who could help a contender

Davis figured to be a key part of a Broncos defense that was going to be as deadly as their Drew Lock-led offense, but injuries in camp forced Vic Fangio to part ways with the former undrafted free agent after five seasons, four of which ended with him assuming a starting role. Davis’ cut certainly can’t be attributed to production, as he has at least 82 tackles in each of the last four seasons and consecutive seasons with at least 100 tackles.
Davis missed just four games over the last four seasons, and he’s coming off of the most productive season in his career. Considering the lack of depth behind him in Denver, Davis’ cut looks even more puzzling. Getting 134 tackles in 14 games will get you another contract, even when his pass coverage leaves a little to be desired. Any team in need of a thumper to shut down an opposing running game should get on the horn with Davis ASAP.
