5. Mia St. John (49-14-2, 19 KOs)

Mia St. John is one of the ironwomen of boxing. She found the sport late but competed in many fights. She didn’t always win, but she was still up for the challenge.

St. John possessed numerous talents. She earned a college degree in psychology, a black belt in taekwondo, modeled, and boxed for 16 years.

St. John started as a martial artist but transitioned to boxing at 29 years old. Over her entire career, she boxed in 65 bouts, compiling 300 rounds of experience. It’s hard to find many women boxers with that much career experience.

She won some minor titles, but wouldn’t win her first major championship until 2012 by outpointing fellow legend Christy Martin for the WBC super welterweight title.

Outside of the ring, St. John has been a vocal advocate for mental health support and suicide awareness and prevention. Sadly, St. John lost her son and ex-husband to suicide. She has spoken publicly about her loss and her struggle with mental health.

St. John has endured so much but is a champion in life just as she was a champion in the ring. She’s using her story and loss to help other people who might be suffering from mental health problems.

St. John last boxed in 2016, winning her final match. She also competed in one MMA bout in 2008. Her résumé speaks for itself, and she deserves recognition as one of the best all-time female boxers.
