NFL quarterback rankings, Week 1: Patrick Mahomes sets the pace
2019 stats: 351 yards | 56.5 completion % | 0 TDs | 1 INTs | 5.7 YPA | 28.8 QBR
Roethlisberger is 38 years old, coming off major elbow surgery. We could see a shell of his former self in 2019. Yet if he can rebound, the Steelers are a title contender. Don’t forget, Roethlisberger threw for a league-best 5,129 yards in 2018.
2019 stats: 3,603 yards | 69.1 completion % | 26 TDs | 6 INTs | 8.1 YPA | 60.4 QBR
Cousins doesn’t get enough credit. He’s accurate, doesn’t turn the ball over and had a robust 8.1 yards per attempt last year. He’s not a top-tier talent, but the Vikings can win deep into January with him under center. The big question is how quickly does he gel with rookie receiver Justin Jefferson?
2019 stats: 2,499 yards | 64.3 completion % | 19 TDs | 5 INTs | 8.6 YPA | 71.3 QBR
Stafford was on a torrid pace before missing the last nine games of 2019 due to a back fracture. Extrapolate his numbers across a 16-game season, and you’re looking at 5,000 yards and 40 touchdown passes. Only 32 years old, Stafford should have a terrific year if healthy.
2019 stats: 4,039 yards | 63.9 completion % | 27 TDs | 7 INTs | 6.7 YPA | 62.8 QBR
Wentz’s numbers are insane considering his best perimeter weapon last season was Alshon Jeffery, with 490 yards. The fourth-year quarterback was essentially throwing to tight ends Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert, running back Miles Sanders and a litany of unknowns. Somehow, Wentz led the Eagles to a division crowd and eclipsed 4,000 yards.
2019 stats: 4,902 yards | 65.1 completion % | 30 TDs | 11 INTs | 8.2 YPA | 71.9 QBR
Prescott manages to be underrated nationally despite being the quarterback of America’s Team. The Mississippi State product threw for almost 5,000 yards, with his other statistics showing either solid or gaudy numbers. He should be even better this year with the addition of head coach Mike McCarthy and first-round receiver CeeDee Lamb.
2019 stats: 4,466 yards | 66.2 completion % | 26 TDs | 14 INTs | 7.3 YPA | 59.6 QBR
Ryan had an uneven campaign in 2019. The yardage was good but the turnovers were high, something he’ll look to clean up. Still, the Falcons’ signal-caller remains one of the league’s best, capable of torching any defense with adequate line play to protect him.
