2021 NFL Mock Draft: Jacksonville Jaguars Tank for Trevor is officially on
By Brad Weiss
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are expected to take a major step forward this season, this after adding guys like Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski in the offseason. Head coach Bruce Arians said last year that if they can win with Jameis Winston, they can win with anyone, and Brady is certainly capable of winning games (sarcasm).
Tampa Bay actually has a pretty complete roster, and if things go right, they certainly could be picking this late in round one. With the selection, I like them to address their issues along the edge on defense, and Quincy Roche from Miami is a guy who should be slated for the first round next April.
One of the better defensive tackles in this draft class is Jordan Davis from Georgia, and he is a guy who has been labeled as a “wrecking ball” from his nose tackle position. The Dallas Cowboys have done a nice job building up their defense with young players as of late, and Davis would come in and be in the mix with Trysten Hill and Neville Gallimore.
The key for this franchise is locking up Dak Prescott, and the hope is that they can get that done next offseason, setting them up for the foreseeable future. The Cowboys have the talent to win the NFC East this season, so picking this late in round one is not out of the question.
The New England Patriots will be without Tom Brady this season, as he signed on with Tampa Bay, and was replaced by Cam Newton. Expected to challenge for the job in New England, Newton has come in and blown the coaching staff, and his teammates away, and was recently named the starter, and a captain.
Based on this draft order, the move from Brady to Newton did nothing to stop the Patriots from being one of the elite in the AFC. With the No. 27 overall pick, New England adds a quality defensive tackle in this draft, as Christian Barmore is a big-bodied player who can make plays in the backfield.
The Pittsburgh Steelers will have the luxury of getting Big Ben Roethlisberger back this season, and he has looked great this summer. Seemingly healthy for the first time in a long time, Roethlisberger will rejoin a team that actually played well without him in 2019, going 8-8 and finishing second in the AFC North.
With Big Ben back, the Steelers will be one of the better teams in the AFC this season, but with their first round pick, they should look to life without him. Jamie Newman will not play this season due to the pandemic, but he is still considered one of the best quarterbacks in this draft class, and could be a nice successor to Roethlisberger in Pittsburgh.
