College football DFS quarterback picks September 12:

Top Tier:

The only question here is how many fantasy points will Sam Ehlinger score? Texas is going to slaughter UTEP and I tend to think they’ll try to sort out their backfield more than throw the ball. They know what they have in Ehlinger. The backfield is much more of a question mark.

Spencer Rattler has the best matchup on the slate and is the supposed next in a long line of Oklahoma Heisman contenders. The only difference is that he is the first one since Trevor Knight in 2014 that didn’t transfer in. Rattler has been a blue chipper for a while now. I tend to think that Oklahoma plays him at least three quarters to get him as used to college football as they can. He’ll outscore Ehlinger tonight.

Wake Forest is a shell of the team they were last year. Like Texas, Clemson knows what they have in Trevor Lawrence and they know they don’t have much of a chance without him. This game gets out of hand and I don’t think Lawrence puts up big enough numbers to justify the price in this one.

Middle Tier:

Texas Tech doesn’t really run, so expect good numbers from Alan Bowman before he exits stage right. He may only play a half against Houston Baptist, but I see more of a path to fantasy success for Bowman that anyone in the top tier besides maybe Rattler.

Okay, so Miles Kendrick is being handed the keys to a Camry instead of a Ferrari, but that doesn’t mean this offense is gutless. Kansas is going to be able to put up some points this year, making Kendrick an interesting flier in the opener.

Micale Cunningham set a Louisville record for passing efficiency last year, so he shouldn’t be in any danger of losing the starting job. That said, I don’t see Louisville not using Jawon Pass in some situations. On top of that, Western Kentucky is a deep team with a solid defense. Don’t expect a huge day from Cunningham here.

Bargain Shoppers:

Do you guys remember Tyrell Pigrome? You know, the Maryland QB who so thrashed Texas in the opener three years ago that he got the defensive coordinator fired? Well, he’s back. This time at Western Kentucky. Louisville has a good defense, but Pigrome is far too cheap considering what he is capable of.

Bailey Zappe threw for 480 yards and three touchdowns on North Texas last week. Texas Tech is going to hold him under that, but I still see Zappe as a serious threat for 20 fantasy points at a very low price.
