It was Mike McCarthy’s debut as the Cowboys’ head coach and thanks to a pair of Ezekiel Elliott touchdowns, Dallas took a 14-13 lead into the locker room at intermission. But Dak Prescott and the offense failed to find the end zone in the second half as McCarthy’s team was limited to a field goal. The Cowboys’ defense had their hands full with the Rams’ running game and the failure to stop it allowed Los Angeles to control the game’s tempo.

The Bolts and new starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor made their way east to Cincinnati to take on the team with the worst record in the NFL in 2019. Anthony Lynn’s club took advantage of a team that finished last in the NFL against the run a year ago as Austin Ekeler and rookie Joshua Kelley (1 TD) combined for 144 of the Chargers’ 155 yards on the ground. And a team that finished last in the NFL with 14 takeaways a year ago forced two turnovers.

It’s a new venue for the Silver and Black but the team’s 2020 season would begin east with a rare visit to Carolina. Jon Gruden’s defense had its issues but the Raiders’ balanced offense kept the Panthers on their paws all day. Second-year running back Josh Jacobs totaled 25 carries for 93 yards and three touchdowns, quarterback Derek Carr threw for 239 yards and one score. Gruden’s club did not allow a sack and played turnover-free football.
