2020 NFL power rankings, Week 2: Packers roll, 49ers stunned
Mike Zimmer’s squad entered 2020 with some new faces on defense and some veterans on that side of the ball no longer with the club. Regardless of the reasons, the Vikings had no answers for Aaron Rodgers and company as the Packers rolled up 522 total yards – 140 more than the Minnesota offense (382). Zimmer’s team wound up scoring 34 points – 24 of that in the final 15 minutes as the Purple Gang trailed, 29-10, after three quarters of play.
After dropping eight in a row to the Cardinals from 2015-18, Kyle Shanahan’s club swept its divisional rival from the desert a season ago. On Sunday, the reigning NFC champions owned a 10-0 lead less than six minutes into the game. But San Francisco’s shaky run defense from a year ago proved it still needed some work as Arizona rolled up 180 yards on the ground and 404 total yards while Jimmy Garoppolo and company had troubles sustaining drives.
Washington’s new head coach Ron Rivera and his team hosted the rival Eagles looking not only to snap at six-game losing streak to the Birds but a 10-game skid to NFC East rivals. And it didn’t look good early for the new-look team as the club fell behind 17-0 in the second quarter. Quarterback Dwayne Haskins rallied his team to 27 unanswered points, Jack Del Rio’s pass rush produced eight sacks and Washington forced Carson Wentz into three turnovers.
