Ball don’t lie: 3 worst calls from Week 1 in the NFL

2. Free garbage time touchdown

Not every call impacts the game, but it can make fantasy owners around the country take a sigh of relief. Late in the second half of the Chiefs opening night win over the Houston Texans, Watson found Jordan Akins for a touchdown to stop the bleeding of sorts. Houston had a rough night, but the final scoreline didn’t necessarily indicate just how lopsided the game was. Watson and his fantasy owners can thank the officiating crew for that one.

Houston’s OL got a solid one-second head start, if not more, and the Chiefs were unable to recover or put any pressure on Watson. While it didn’t have a major impact on the final result, the clear-cut nature of this call places it squarely as one of the worst Week 1 has to offer. Believe it or not, that might be a good sign for NFL officials, who for the most part stayed out of the headlines this week.
