Rashaan Evans just got tossed for throwing a punch (Video)
Titans linebacker Rashaan Evans was ejected for throwing a punch during Monday Night Football.
The return of the NFL season included all the things you love to see like touchdowns, sacks and interceptions. It also included some of the worst things in the sport, like one grown man punching another in the face mask.
Rashaan Evans of the Tennessee Titans was the one who whose brainless swing resulted in an ejection on Monday Night Football.
The linebacker grappled with Denver Broncos tight end Jake Butt after the whistle and let the moment get the better of him.
It was an easy ejection to determine.
Rashaan Evans lost his cool and threw a boneheaded punch.
Here’s the thing about football players throwing punches: What’s the point? The only one in danger of being hurt by a punch thrown at a helmeted player is the player who threw the punch.
That’s how you break your own hand.
Evans’ punch wasn’t particularly forceful, but it was clearly a punch. He was never going to get away with it.
Adding insult to the injury, the Broncos went on to take a 7-0 lead in the aftermath of the ejection. They would have faced a 3rd-and-6 without the penalty picked up by Evans.
Now the Titans are down a linebacker as they attempt to grab an opening week win on the road. It’s not an ideal position to be in, especially while facing running backs like Phillip Lindsey and Melvin Gordon.
Evans, the former first-rounder, is now in his third year in the league. Last year he started all 16 games, logging a second-best 111 combined tackles, including nine tackles for loss. His presence will be missed.
Evans’ backup is William Compton, who signed with the team as a free agent in August. He last played for the Raiders in 2019. He had 41 tackles in nine games and started four times.
