The Steelers became the latest team to make a statement during the National Anthem

Before their Monday Night Football tilt against the New York Giants, the Steelers joined the New York Giants in making a statement during the National Anthem. Pittsburgh, along with the majority of the 31 other NFL teams, made it known that ending racism will take all of us, not just empty gestures by the rich and powerful.

The Steelers used a large banner to make their thoughts known. The banner read “Steelers against racism” and was prominently featured on the ESPN national broadcast.

Some NFL fans have found the means to be against what on the surface looks to be an agreeable sentiment. The Steelers do not care, nor should they.

The NFL’s season-long commitment to fighting racism is in full-swing

The NFL joined the likes of the NBA, MLB  and even NHL in making declarations against racial injustice and police brutality. The league itself has firmly sided with the BLM movement while allowing its players to demonstrate however they see fit. This comes four years after Colin Kaepernick’s movement was greeted by incredible pessimism, and even lost him his job.

Roger Goodell has acknowledged that the NFL and its owners approached the Kaepernick demonstrations the wrong way, and failed to hear his message. Such a viewpoint is rich now the Kaep is out of a job, but at the very least it offers today’s players to be on the right side of history.
