2021 NFL Mock Draft: Bengals add more protection for Joe Burrow
By Brad Weiss
There has to be some worried people inside the front office for the Cleveland Browns, as a new head coach could not bring out the best in quarterback Baker Mayfield. He has struggled mightily since his record-breaking rookie season, and it is possible that the time could already be running out for him.
If they do decide to continue to roll with Mayfield as their starter, they need to bring in more talent in front of him along the offensive line. One would argue that right guard is their biggest issue right now, and looking at this draft class, Creed Humphrey from Oklahoma is the best interior offensive lineman available.
The Chicago Bears came away with a solid victory against the Detroit Lions on Sunday, although it took a sure-touchdown drop by D’Andre Swift to do so. Quarterback Mitchell Trubisky played well for the Bears, throwing three touchdowns, but based on his history, this could be his final season in the Windy City.
Looking ahead, if Trey Lance is still on the board when the Bears pick, it is going to be hard for them to pass up on him. He has played in cold weather, can make every throw, and if they are done with Trubisky, why not bring in a young player to grow behind Nick Foles for the 2021 season.
The Los Angeles Chargers picked up a win in their season opener, as they were able to erase a 13-6 fourth quarter deficit and come away with the road victory. Their defense played well throughout the game, frustrating Joe Burrow at times, and anytime you can go East and win on the road as a West Coast team is a plus.
However, they will have to get better up front along the offensive line, especially as they start to turn the franchise over to 2020 first round pick Justin Herbert. Samuel Cosmi is considered the second-best offensive tackle in the draft class, and with Penei Sewell gone at this point, he has to be the pick.
