5. He won’t be a total bust, but Christian McCaffrey will appear human

Game: Carolina Panthers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Sunday, 9/20, 1:00 pm EST)

Well, the Panthers pulled the card of an angry Tom Brady out of the deck for Week 2. That’s an unwelcome event if you’re a player on the Panthers.

But that’s the offense. What about the defense? An unsung fact about the 2019 Buccaneers defense is that the group was the second-best rushing defense in the NFL. The secondary didn’t necessarily toe the line, but the run defense was stout.

What’s more, the Buccanneers actually held McCaffrey in check last season during the team’s two divisional game showdowns. During those two meetings, McCaffrey tabulated 110 total yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns altogether. If you’ve followed McCaffrey for any point of time in the last two years, you know that is puny by his production standards.

On this matchup, Tampa Bay will be ornery about its loss to the Saints. Head coach Bruce Arians has established the blueprint to slow McCaffrey down, and that will extend into 2020. McCaffrey won’t be a player you bench, but he probably won’t throw up 30 fantasy points.

Obviously start McCaffrey this week but expect his performance to feel off-kilter for this week only
