5. Suso — Sevilla FC

Suso’s career thus far has not gone according to plan. He was deemed as one of the most coveted young wingers in Europe when he joined Milan in 2015. But the Spanish talent failed to build off of the hype regarding his potential as he scored a mere 24 goals in all competitions over six seasons with the Italian side.

Suso spent last season with Sevilla on a loan stint. He wound up scoring three goals in 23 appearances for the club. Sevilla’s board was pleased with Suso’s play last season as the club later signed him on a €24 million permanent transfer deal.

Suso now has high expectations with his new club. Sevilla does not expect the Spanish attacking talent to become the main creative catalyst for the team that creates multiple goal-scoring chances per game. Instead, Suso’s game is more suited to being a player who can help bring the ball up into the final third. Whether it is via his dribbling prowess or off-ball movements, he can become an anchor for the team in its build-up phases.

More importantly for Suso, he needs a strong season in order to be among the players that Spanish national team manager Luis Enrique could very well consider for his side’s UEFA Euro final squad list next summer. Suso has not featured for Spain in over a year, so he must up his play in order to be among the serious candidates for Spain’s forward group for the Euros.

Sevilla has had a recent lengthy history in getting the best out of its high-priced transfer acquisitions. The club sure hopes that Suso will be another example of just that.
