Spencer Sanders has been ruled out vs. Tulsa with a high ankle sprain.

Oklahoma State football must adjust with starting quarterback Spencer Sanders being ruled out.

Sanders left Saturday afternoon’s game shortly before halftime with a high ankle sprain. Ethan Bullock came in to replace the Oklahoma State Cowboys quarterback, but the Pokes’ offense has largely sputtered without Sanders vs. the in-state rival Tulsa Golden Hurricane. With Oklahoma State as the No. 11 team in the nation, the Pokes cannot be upset at home vs. the AAC’s Tulsa.

Chuba Hubbard must take over if Oklahoma State wants to avoid embarrassment.

The offensive trio of Sanders at quarterback, Chuba Hubbard at running back and Tylan Wallace at wide receiver are among the very best in Power 5 college football. Hubbard is an All-American running back and a contender to win the Doak Walker Award. Wallace is about as good at wide receiver, as he’ll contend for the Fred Biletnikoff Award. Sanders is an on-the-rise player for sure.

Entering the year, the Cowboys were projected to be one of four teams who could at least semi-realistically win the Big 12. They were seen as one of maybe a dozen teams in the ACC, Big 12 and SEC footprints capable of reaching the College Football Playoff. But after a terrible showing last week, the Big 12 must show it’s more than just the Oklahoma Sooners and the Texas Longhorns.

Though there is time for Oklahoma State to avoid being upset, everybody and their brother outside of Tulsa picked the Pokes to win this one. This was slated to be arguably Mike Gundy‘s best Oklahoma State team since the 2011 squad won the Big 12 with Brandon Weeden at quarterback and Justin Blackmon at wide receiver. To fall at home to Tulsa would be something.

Oklahoma State can still avoid being upset, but the Cowboys must find pay dirt here very soon.
