Chris Godwin is going to play for the Bucs against Denver.

Week 1 couldn’t have gone worse for Tom Brady, Bruce Arians, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They lost to a division rival in the New Orleans Saints, turned the ball over twice, and saw wide receiver Chris Godwin sustain a concussion. Things are looking up after Week 2, however. Not only did they convincingly take down the Carolina Panthers, but they got a very positive update on Godwin’s health and availability.

Godwin has been cleared to return to action in Week 3 against the Denver Broncos. Against a Denver defense that has proven they can cause problems for upper-tier quarterbacks like Ben Roethlisberger, this will be a welcome reinforcement for Tampa Bay’s passing game.

Chris Godwin might become the No. 1 receiver in Tampa Bay this season

Godwin was making plays in the Week 1 loss against the Saints, hauling in six catches for 79 yards in his first game with Brady under center, but an unlucky collision ultimately knocked him out of their Week 2 matchup. Justin Watson and Scotty Miller tried their best to hold down the fort, but they can’t hold a candle to Godwin in terms of getting open downfield and getting separation at the line of scrimmage.

Mike Evans, who only hauled in one catch in Week 1, started to show flashed of the old Evans against Carolina. Against a wounded, 0-2 Denver team, we may finally see Tampa’s offense operating at maximum efficiency.

Brady might not have a howitzer of a right arm, but his performance in New England when they had a viable vertical field-stretcher as compared to when they didn’t is night and day. Godwin’s speed will not only help him get open on deep routes, but it’ll take attention away from Evans, Rob Gronkowski, and Tampa’s stockpile of tremendous receiving weapons.
