3. Devonta Freeman, FA

Something was going to give, right? Devonta Freeman has remained a free agent to this point but one would guess following the injuries on Sunday that he will be finding a new home soon enough.

It was reported late last week that the Philadelphia Eagles were meeting with Freeman, which is important news considering his inactivity since the Jacksonville Jaguars released Leonard Fournette. Putting a claim in on Freeman would be risky, but also worth it considering that he will be working out with the New York Giants and could sign with a team as soon as you read this.

Freeman was effective last season for the Atlanta Falcons when healthy, and at 28 years old, he still has plenty to give. He’d instantly be the No. 1 waiver if he was on a team as of this writing considering his ability compared to the others on this list, but we don’t know what is opportunities could be until he signs somewhere.

It’s worth noting that the running back has not run for 100 yards in a game since 2017, so don’t expect him to become an RB1 off the bat. But do expect him to be a good addition to any NFL team and more importantly, your fantasy football team.

Time will tell as to whether Freeman latches on with a team like the Giants, who have plenty of carries to go around, or a team like the Eagles, where it would not be as simple. Either way, put in a claim and hope it works out for you as McCaffrey needs to be mirrored somehow.
