The Chicago Cubs third baseman leaves game with an apparent injury, with the MLB postseason around the corner.

The 2020 MLB regular season reaches its end following the Sunday slate of games, and the Chicago Cubs have all but clinched the NL Central division. Entering Monday’s games against the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Cubs held the No. 2 seed in the NL side of the bracket, but are in a tie with the Atlanta Braves, the NL East division leaders. There’s absolutely no room for setbacks for the Cubs, and they already face one.

In the top of the second inning, third baseman Kris Bryant took an awkward-looking swing, where he appeared to have tweaked something on the right side of his body. Even after being checked on by manager David Ross and a medical trainer, Bryant continued his at-bat where he ultimately grounded out. Bryant would ultimately leave the game afterwards.

Losing a player at this point of the season is a nightmare scenario for Cubs

Bryant has not had an ideal season, as he struggled at the plate and had to fight through a variety of injuries. Back in summer camp, Bryant was dealing with minor back issues. Near the start of the season, Bryant had experienced left elbow soreness. Last month, Bryant hit the 10-day injured list with a sprained left finger and a left wrist injury.

Through 31 games this season (prior to the Pirates game), Bryant slashed .197/.285/.303 while recording 24 hits, 16 runs scored, two home runs and five RBI.

Cubs fans should know of the severity of Bryant’s injury within the next 24 hours. From there, we’ll see if the third baseman will be deemed good to go for the postseason.
