3. Tyreek Hill took off his helmet

The Chiefs comeback against the Chargers this week stole any and all storylines, especially given Patrick Mahomes knack for making the impossible…possible. The Chiefs have won their last six games in which they’ve been down double-digits. That’s insane. But would it still be true had Tyreek Hill been called for a 15-yard penalty after taking his helmet off following his 54-yard touchdown catch?

Kansas City would tie the game with a two-point conversion and eventually win in overtime. There’s no way to know if the Chiefs still would’ve won had Hill’s penalty been called, but the two-point try would’ve been far tougher 15 yards from the spot of a usual PAT. It’s a dumb rule, but one that ought to be enforced. The officials conveniently ignored it in a critical situation, giving the Chiefs all the ammo they’d need to eventually continue their winning ways.

Recap: Sure, there were some tough decisions made this week. But last week’s B- looks alike an aberration compared to this slate of mistakes. Overall, I’ll go with a cautious B+ with room to improve. The Chargers and Jaguars were robbed in critical scenarios, and that can’t happen in professional football. Human element or not, clean it up!
