3. San Francisco 49ers

It was rumored the 49ers offered more than the Browns did to the Giants for Beckham, with a possibly tipping point toward Cleveland the idea of trading him out of the NFC. In any case, the opportunity to circle back to Beckham now seems to be there.

The 49ers have some interesting pieces at wide receiver (Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, Kendrick Bourne), but none are a coverage-tilting No.1 like Beckham can be (for better or worse, as extra attention can bring fewer targets). Tight end George Kittle is the team’s No. 1 passing game target. Kyle Shanahan’s offense is also rooted in the running game, while asking little of the quarterback and the passing game, which may not appeal to Beckham even if it means sacrificing production for winning. But with the Browns he hasn’t produced much and they haven’t been winning, so maybe an awakening is coming and landing on the defending NFC champions would be a solid fit for Beckham as he parks his ego.

49ers general manager John Lynch is not afraid to consider big moves, and make them when it fits. Lingering interest in Beckham may very well finally be paid off before the trade deadline.
