1. Jerick McKinnon (SF)

Game: San Francisco 49ers at New York Giants (Sunday, 9/27,1:00pm EST)

On an average Sunday afternoon, the 49ers would have about four capable running backs engineering Kyle Shanahan’s offense. The 49ers head coach likes to use a committee, and this practice has been successful.

This week, the candidates for this approach has dwindled. Raheem Mostert and Tevin Coleman are sidelined, so the usual suspects are numbered. The Giants have defended the run nicely through two games, but Shanahan will trust his halfbacks more so than reservist quarterback Nick Mullens who is filling in for the injured Jimmy Garoppolo.

Start McKinnon and his stablemate — more on that later.

2. D’Andre Swift (DET)

Game: Detroit Lions at Arizona Cardinals (Sunday, 9/27, 4:25pm EST)

The Lions coughed away an early lead against the Packers last weekend, but Swift was in the mix in terms of playing time. The week prior, Swift dropped a sure-fire game-winning touchdown, and that presumably ate at him for one week. Detroit still has faith in him as evidenced by his ten touches last week in Green Bay.

At some point, he will usurp the mighty Adrian Peterson’s touches. Let’s give him a sleeper shot down in Arizona this week.
