College football betting picks afternoon week 3:

Mississippi State at (6)LSU(-16.5)(3): Remember that game that South Carolina played in Death Valley because of a hurricane a few years back? That’s going to be what Death Valley looks like here. LSU still has a lot of talent despite only three returning starters, but with a strange offseason and Mike Leach on the other sideline, this game is going to be closer than people think. LSU wins, but I think they’re going to be too busy trying to figure things out to cover. I’ll take the Leaches.

(8)Texas(-17.5) at Texas Tech(4): Lubbock has been a house of horrors for the Horns a few times over the last 20 years or so. This wont be one of those years. The Texas offense is still loaded and the defense might be better than last year. Texas wins BIG.

(22)Army at (14)Cincinnati(-13.5)(5): This is way too many! I picked Army outright in Pick Em. I’m betting this the same way. Army straight up!

West Virginia at (15)Oklahoma State(-6.5)(4): A lot of this is going to depend on the status of Spencer Sanders, but I’m not sure it matters. Oklahoma’s State’s offensive line was pushed around by Tulsa and is part of the reason Sanders was hobbled. It rendered Chuba Hubbard facing impossible fronts and Tylan Wallace was a non-factor because he didn’t have the time to run his  routes. It’s going to get worse before it gets better. West Virginia straight up no matter who starts under center.

UTEP at Louisiana-Monroe(-8.5)(5): This is way too low. UTEP was outplayed by Stephen F. Austin for most of the game and should have lost to Abilene Christian. Warhawks to at least two touchdowns.

(4)Georgia(-27.5) at Arkansas(1): Georgia will have a redshirt freshman with very little experience under center and unproved running backs. I don’t care how good George Pickens is. He can’t throw to himself. Arkansas is bad, but I still don’t know that Georgia covers this. Give me the Piggies, I guess.

Duke at Virginia(-4.5)(3): I get this because Virginia hasn’t played a game yet. This opened at -9. It has dropped too far. Virginia by a touchdown. Duke’s defense was supposed to be a strength and it hasn’t been anywhere near that.

Texas State at Boston College(-18.5)(1): BC covered Duke by this, but I feel this is a little high here. I’m converting to the Bobcats. They have been on TV more and I’ve enjoyed watching them. BC wins, but doesn’t cover.
