Eagles lose DeSean Jackson, Dallas Goedert to injury

The Eagles roster continues to be decimated by injury. Carson Wentz lost two more weapons in the team’s Week 3 game against the Bengals.

Carson Wentz hasn’t played well this season, but injuries continue to make his life more difficult. The Eagles lost two key receivers due to injury during their Week 3 game against the Bengals. Wide receiver DeSean Jackson and tight end Dallas Goedert both failed to finish the contest.

Goedert suffered an ankle injury that knocked him out of the game against Cincinnati. He did not come back to the field for the second half. DeSean Jackson was officially ruled to be “questionable” to return after suffering a hamstring injury of his own.

The Eagles can survive without Goedert because of the presence of Zach Ertz to man the tight end position. Philadephia’s offense operates at maximum efficiency with both talented tight ends on the field, but it should be easy for Doug Pederson and his offensive coaching staff to scheme around his absence.

The loss of Jackson is more concerning. His ability to use his speed to threaten opposing secondaries down the field is critical for Philadelphia’s offensive success. Taking him out of the equation puts even more pressure on the rest of the team’s receiving corps to create space on short and intermediate throws.

It also puts significant pressure on Wentz to elevate his offensive teammates. The Eagles desperately need him to regain his All-Pro form if they want to be a Super Bowl contender this season. Losing weapons like Jackson and Goedert make that task more difficult, but they aren’t sufficient excuses for Wentz to struggle. He’s being paid like a star and must overcome these sorts of obstacles.
