QB. New York Giants. 2. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Daniel Jones. player. 31

It’s only his second year out of Duke, but Daniel Jones doesn’t seem to have what it takes to be a high-end NFL starting quarterback. Even though he’s on his second head coach in as many seasons and his second offensive coordinator, one would think we’d see him show any signs of life in his first three starts of 2020. With the New York Giants at 0-3, it may be time to make a switch.

Going up against Nick Mullens and a depleted San Francisco 49ers team, one would think Jones would be able to give the Giants something offensively from the quarterback position. Even though they don’t have Saquon Barkley at running back for the rest of the season, this is the time for Jones to live up to being a former No. 6 overall pick. Sadly, he’s not getting it done right now.

Jones completed 17-of-32 passes for 179 yards, an interception and a lost fumble. While he had five carries for 49 yards, the Giants couldn’t get anything going on the ground game outside a few scrambles from their underperforming quarterback. At 0-3, the Giants’ season is on life support, so perhaps they might look to Colt McCoy next week at the Los Angeles Rams. Who knows really?

What is most troubling regarding Jones is it has become increasingly rare for young quarterbacks to struggle out of the gate. Jones was labeled a strong David Cutcliffe disciple coming out of Duke, but may not live up to the lofty standards of the Manning Brothers after all. Unfortunately, Jones has been a big reason why the Giants are arguably the worst team in the NFC this season.
