NFL: These quarterbacks deserve to be benched before Week 4

It already happened, but it needs to keep happening. Mitchell Trubisky got benched in his third 2020 start for the Chicago Bears vs. the Atlanta Falcons. Though he completed 13-of-22 passes for 128 and a touchdown, he had an awful interception before being yanked by head coach Matt Nagy in favor of Nick Foles. Though the Bears are 3-0, that might be all she wrote for Trubisky.
The signature play of Trubisky’s day was a 45-yard run that set up his lone touchdown pass on the afternoon to tight end Jimmy Graham. Even if Foles was far from perfect for the Bears, this was one of the moves the Bears can’t come back from. It has to be Foles going forward because they’re 3-0 and still very much alive for the NFC North division race. They can’t waste this strong defense.
When the Bears declined Trubisky’s fifth-year option for 2021 as a former No. 2 overall pick out of North Carolina in the 2017 NFL Draft, the writing was on the wall for him in Chicago. He may be a nice guy, a great teammate and a hard-working professional. However, the talent discrepancy is not going to cut it any more for the Bears. They need to see what Foles can do going forward.

We’ve seen what Foles can do when he’s got a great defense to lean on. He won a Super Bowl as a backup during his second run with the Philadelphia Eagles. While thinking the Bears can win Super Bowl 55 at this point is laughable, it’s more likely to happen with Foles under center than Trubisky. Start Foles next week and start evaluating 2021 NFL Draft talent at quarterback.
