5. Jeff Van Gundy

The wording is a bit unclear, but according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Jeff Van Gundy may be a leading candidate for the Clippers job. In other words, here we go again.

Look, JVG is … fine as a coaching candidate. He’s a well-respected basketball mind who’s won 57.5 percent of his games in his coaching career with the Houston Rockets and New York Knicks, and he’s still kept at it as a coach for Team USA, leading them to a 15-2 record for World Cup qualifying most recently.

However, he also hasn’t coached in an actual NBA game since 2007, and the league has changed dramatically since then. Van Gundy continues to be a flashy name for all of these coaching vacancies, but he might just be more of a red herring at this point, and there are certainly better candidates available.
