NFL DFS Bargain Bin: Week 4 Sunday Slates Tight Ends

T.J. Hockenson, DET vs. NO ($4,800-DK/$5,400-FD)

The Lions have clearly prioritized getting the athletic Hockenson involved early this season, as the 2019 first-round pick has already logged 16 targets through three games, including a season-high seven in Week 3 despite Kenny Golladay making his season debut after missing the first two games with a hamstring issue. Despite his level of involvement and downfield upside, Hockenson is priced very reasonably on both sites.

Hockenson has a solid 12.9 percent of Detroit’s air yards thus far, and his matchup Sunday could facilitate more success. The Saints come in surrendering the most FD points per game (22.5) to tight ends over the first three contests, a figure that’s the byproduct of yielding the most receptions (29), receiving yards (290) and receiving touchdowns (four) to the position.

Evan Engram, NYG at LAR ($4,400-DK/$5,600-FD)

Engram had some momentum coming into the season, as he’d reportedly looked very explosive in training camp after a foot injury wiped out the second half of his 2019 campaign. The athletic fourth-year pro has since gotten off to a serviceable but largely unremarkable start, bringing in 11 of 20 targets for 96 yards in the first three games while not yet finding the end zone. Part of the issue is how close to the line of scrimmage his looks are coming compared to his first three seasons, as he’s averaging just 4.8 yards per target and 8.7 yards per grab.

However, New York is missing Saquon Barkley (knee) for the season and receiver Sterling Shepard (toe) for this contest, and sooner or later, that will add up to more attention for Engram. The Rams have had a certain degree of vulnerability early to tight ends as well, as they’ve allowed a 16-120-3 line to the position over the last three contests. Engram is priced very reasonably and likely to be forgotten to an extent in tournaments, making him a potentially rewarding sneaky large-field play in particular.
