A Bears loss Sunday proves the Packers are the true kings of the NFC North.

The Chicago Bears entered play Sunday with a 3-0 record and Nick Foles in as the starting quarterback. All the blame was put on Mitchell Trubisky and now the offense could flourish. Or so fans thought.

Foles went 26/42 for 249 yards and one touchdown and the backfield combined for 28 rushing yards on 16 carries Sunday in a 19-11 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. The loss showcased the same familiar problems seen under Matt Nagy and makes it clear the Green Bay Packers are the only elite team in the NFC North division.

Packers on a different plane than the Bears

The Packers are 3-0 and will look to stay undefeated Monday night against the Atlanta Falcons. So far the team has managed to score at least 37 points in every game this season and has easy victories over both the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings. Aaron Rodgers has nine touchdowns and zero interceptions and has eliminated any talk of controversy after the team drafted Jordan Love.

The Lions and the Vikings both have records of 1-3. The Vikings finally got a win Sunday over the now 0-4 Houston Texans, but that offense outside of Dalvin Cook remains a huge concern. The Lions, well, blew a big lead against the New Orleans Saints and Matt Patricia’s job should be in danger.

The Bears are Green Bay’s only true competition in the division. Yet not having consistent quarterback play from Trubisky or Foles will doom that team’s chances of competing for a Super Bowl. The defense may be good enough to help the offense overcome weaker opponents, but a team like the Packers is going to score a bunch and the Bears offense will have to play catch-up.

The first matchup between the two teams comes at the end of November. By then it is possible Foles is playing better and the Bears offense is running smoothly under Nagy. It is also possible the Packers enter that game undefeated with the way the team has started the season.

Next. Even Matt Patricia doesn’t know why he’s still employed. dark

3-1 through four games is still a great start for the Bears. But putting up 11 points against the Colts shows the gap between the Bears and the dominant Packers.
