Heisman candidate No. 2: Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson

As mentioned, Clemson probably got a bit more fight from UVA than they expected. But while that may be the case, quarterback Trevor Lawrence didn’t miss a beat in what is looking more and more like a perfect season for the projected No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Yes, it’s only been three games but he’s been that good.

In the win over the Cavaliers, Lawrence went 25-of-38 for 329 yards and three touchdowns while throwing no picks once again. He also added 36 rushing yards.

For the season now, Lawrence has 848 yards, seven passing touchdowns and three rushing scores and no turnovers — but it should also be noted that he didn’t even come close to playing a full game against The Citadel or Wake Forest. As the ACC schedule kicks up, the Clemson star should only further his status as the Heisman frontrunner.

Heisman candidate No. 1: Kyle Trask, QB, Florida

Fans in Gainesville already considered quarterback Kyle Trask a superstar after a strong performance in the 2019 campaign before he took a snap this year. But the fact remained that he still needed to further prove that amid the Gators’ all-SEC schedule if he was going to be in the Heisman race or if Florida was going to be a force to be reckoned with. In two games, he’s done nothing but prove himself.

In a 38-24 win over the Gamecocks in Week 5, Trask diced up another SEC defense as he went 21-of-29 for 268 yards with four touchdowns, even if he did throw an interception. Trask now has 10 touchdown passes and just shy of 700 yards passing through only two games. He’s looked phenomenal and, though the level of competition will ramp up soon, the Florida quarterback is an early favorite to be a Heisman Trophy finalist — at the very least.
