5 replacements the Texans should hire for Bill O’Brien
By Scott Rogust
When you think of team’s that have an infatuation with the New England Patriots, the Lions are the first to come to mind. But the Texans have been trying to become “Patriots South” for the longest time. The Texans hired Jack Easterby, former character coach for New England, as their executive vice president for team development last summer. So, who’s to say he won’t try to bring over offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels to be their new head coach.
McDaniels does carry a bad stigma, considering he accepted the Indianapolis Colts job and bailed days later to stay in New England. His best bet to landing a new job would be in Houston, as Easterby is reportedly in the ear of team owner Cal McNair.
Besides the relationship with Easterby, McDaniels has improved his coaching reputation for his work with new signal caller Cam Newton. Many had doubts about Newton, who had shoulder and foot surgery in the span of a calendar year, but he’s been lighting it up for the Patriots thus far. His success can be credited to McDaniels overhauling the team’s offensive scheme to get the most out of Newton’s skillset. That’s the blueprint on how to coach a Watson-led Texans offense.
You might hate the idea, but it does make some sense.
