With North Dakota State and FCS shifting toward a spring season, Lance was going to get one showcase game this fall before he presumably declared for the 2021 NFL Draft. That game came last Saturday against Central Arkansas.

With plenty of NFL teams in Fargo to see him, Lance scored four total touchdowns (two passing, two rushing) with 292 total yards (149 passing, 143 rushing).

Lance officially declared to the 2021 draft on Tuesday. He will forego his final two-plus years of eligibility, with one season plus one game as a college starter at the FCS level under his belt. But his running ability, size (6-foot-4, 25 pounds) and raw tools are enough to intrigue NFL scouts and he’s lined up to be a first-round pick.

Yet his passing numbers were not impressive in his one 2020 game (15-for-30 for those 149 yards), and FanSided’s Ian Wharton pointed to clear differences between Lance and more polished passers like Lawrence and Fields.

Lance is the kind of prospect who will get a GM and head coach fired, or give said GM and head coach job security until eternity if he develops and reaches his full potential. There will be no in-between. If they’re in a certain spot in the top-10 and Lance is there, the ceiling will be hard to Washington to turn away from
