ESPN college pick em picks 1-5

(1) Oklahoma over Texas:

This was the first time Oklahoma has lost consecutive regular season games since 1999. Not even in this same century! The Sooners have come into the Red River Shootout off a loss twice since 2000 and won both of those games. The Longhorns were favored in both. I think Texas probably wins this, but unlike Boz, I’m sticking with my team.

(2) Coastal Carolina over Louisiana:

The Cajuns have been living dangerously since their upset of Iowa State in Ames. CCU is a high-energy team led by redshirt freshman Grayson McCall. This team not only marched into Lawrence and smacked Kansas for a second straight year, but they destroyed a solid Arkansas State squad. You know, the one that beat Kansas State in the Little Apple. Overall, CCU has just looked better. It’s going to be a fight, but I’m on the Chanticleer bandwagon.

(3) Clemson over Miami:

Lost in D’Eriq King mania is just how good Cam’ron Harris has been as the lead back. Add to that a rejuvenated defense, and you have the best Miami team in over a decade. Are they good enough to beat Clemson? If the Tigers come out flat, sure, but when was the last time Clemson came out flat? It has been over a year. I think Clemson gets tested more than they did at any time last year and we’ll see if Trevor Lawrence is really Heisman material here. Ultimately, I think Clemson finds a way here, but it wont be easy.

(4) Kentucky over Mississippi State:

I know Arkansas is a much better team than they were last year, but there isn’t much of an excuse for not only losing to them, but never really being involved in that game. Kentucky’s defense is so much better than Arkansas’s defense is. I don’t like betting against a Mike Leach team so I’ll just lower the points, but Kentucky could win this easily if you want to put it higher.

(5) Kansas State over TCU:

TCU’s defense has proven to be a solid unit, but Texas did more to beat themselves than the Toadies did to beat them. This is going to be another tough game, but I just think K-State is a little more put together on offense. Want proof? The Wildcats have zero turnovers through three games. They aren’t going to beat themselves. I’m not sure TCU can beat them without the help of errors on the other side. Texas made a whole bunch of them. Kansas State likely will not.
