Randy Arozarena has become the bane of the New York Yankees’ existence during the ALDS.

The New York Yankees entered the ALDS looking for revenge against the Tampa Bay Rays, who won the regular-season series between the two and the AL East division title. The Yankees did take Game 1 before dropping Game 2 on Tuesday evening. The Yankees have faced one player that has given them fits thus far in the series, and that’s outfielder Randy Arozarena.

On Wednesday night, Arozarena hit a solo home run off Yankees starting pitcher Masahiro Tanaka in the top of the fifth inning to extend Tampa Bay’s lead to 5-1. This is now the third consecutive game the 25-year-old has hit a home run, showcasing that he may be the new thorn in the side of the Yankees, just like David Ortiz used to be when he played for the Boston Red Sox.

Randy Arozarena has been hot since the postseason started

Ever since the Rays hosted the rival Toronto Blue Jays in the Wild Card round, Arozarena has stepped his game up when it’s mattered most. Entering Game 3, Arozarena had gone 9-for-16 at the plate, including two doubles and one triple. Besides the home run streak, Arozarena has had four-straight multi-hit games and at least one extra base-hit in all five MLB postseason games.

It’s important to note that after testing positive for COVID-19 back in July, Arozarena put on 15-pounds of muscle by dieting and doing 300 pushups a day. He put that added muscle to good use when it mattered the most for the Rays.

Somewhere, somebody from the St. Louis Cardinals front office just threw their remote at the television.
