The Oakland Athletics appeared to be headed toward yet another postseason disaster. The team trailed the Houston Astros 7-4 in Game 3 and could have easily folded. Instead, the offense managed to score five late runs to win 9-7 and keep the series alive.
Now the A’s get to do it all over again Thursday as they look to win yet another elimination game. The pitching has been shaky all series and the offense will be called upon to step up against Zack Greinke.
What to watch for in Game 4
The Astros offense has come alive in this series. It will be up to Frankie Montas to slow them down Thursday afternoon. The right-hander threw two innings in relief in the Wild Card round and finished the regular season with a 5.60 ERA. He did face Houston three times this season and had mixed results.
Greinke getting the start for Houston is great news for Astros fans. The pitcher was reportedly experiencing soreness in his arm but is good enough to pitch in Game 4. He last pitched on September 29 against the Minnesota Twins in the Wild Card round and went four innings in a 4-1 Astros win.
Slowing down the Astros offense is the only way the A’s keep this series alive. Houston has scored at least five runs in all three games and players like George Springer and Jose Altuve are playing like their normal selves again.
